WaveScan WaveFront™ System Eye Surgery
VISX's success has always been based upon unparalleled research and development efforts in the field of laser vision correction technology. Today these efforts are represented by the marriage of the STAR S4 IR™ Excimer Laser System and the WaveScan Wavefront™ System creating the CustomVue™ procedure.
The WaveScan WaveFront™ technology was originally developed to reduce distortions in high-powered telescopes and is used in the CustomVue procedure to:
- Measure imperfections in your eye 25 times more precisely than standard methods.
- Produce a detailed map of your eye — as unique as your fingerprint.
- Generate digital information which is transferred directly to the laser used in your procedure, to provide a new level of precision and accuracy.
WaveScan WaveFront™ technology captures unique imperfections in each individual’s vision that could not have been measured before.
How WaveScan WaveFront™ works
A “Wavefront” device is used to transmit a light ray into the eye, which is reflected from the retina back to the device. Imperfections in the visual system influence the paths of the reflected light waves, which are then computed into a 3-D map. Through this, irregularities and unevenness in the visual system as a whole can be measured and mapped.
The WaveFront™ Map for each eye is entered into the laser system to generate a laser treatment pattern that matches the imperfections of the eye. Since each eye has its own unique WaveFront™ Map, the entire procedure can be carried out in a precise and truly customised manner.
