Phakic Intraocular Lenses

Although the majority of those who come to see us are suitable candidates for laser vision correction, it is not always the case. Fortunately, Perfect Vision Laser Correction may still have the answer - a range of non-laser procedures, including Refractive Lens Exchange and Cataract Surgery.

Each patient’s eye condition and desired visual outcome is factored into the choice of which Phakic Intraocular Lens (Phakic IOL) is the most appropriate for them.

A Phakic IOL is a small lens, designed to be surgically inserted behind the cornea. Once in place, it focuses light accurately onto the retina, working in a similar way to standard contact lenses by compensating for visual irregularities. Unlike contact lenses, once a Phakic IOL is in place, it will remain there indefinitely, meaning a permanent freedom from glasses and contacts.

And because Phakic IOLs are produced from a biocompatible material, they are integrated into your eye, giving you great vision that feels entirely natural.

We are proud to offer the most advanced lenses on the market for our patients.

Most intraocular lenses cannot change focus from distance to near like a young and healthy natural lens. The unique AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens can improve a patient's quality vision throughout the entire visual spectrum – up close, far away and everything in between! The ReSTOR® lens can be used for cataract patients with and without presbyopia, resulting in reduced dependence on glasses.

The innovative AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens uses a revolutionary apodized diffractive optic design and refocuses light onto the retina for images at various distances without having to move mechanically. Similar technology has been used for years in microscopes and telescopes to improve image quality, and has now been patented for use in intraocular lenses by Alcon.

Apodization is the gradual tapering of the diffractive steps from the center to the outside edge of a lens to create a smooth transition of light between the distance, intermediate and near focal points. Diffraction involves the bending or spreading of light to multiple focal points as it passes through the lens. On the AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL the series of tiny steps in that center area work together to focus light for near through distance vision.

Patients that desire spectacle independence after cataract surgery are ideal candidates for the ReSTOR® lens. To read more about the AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens visit www.acrysofrestor.com.

tecnislens

The Tecnis lens was specifically designed to improve the functional vision of cataract surgery patients. Functional vision is the ability to see clearly while performing daily activities in varying levels of light. Even patients who have no problem reading the letters on an eye chart can be at a serious disadvantage in low-light situations because they have reduced contrast sensitivity.

The TECNIS® Lens is a wavefront-designed lens for improved functional vision, which is especially important when driving at night. Based on night-driving simulator results in a controlled clinical study, the TECNIS® Lens provided improved visibility that may allow for quicker reaction time, which is likely to provide a meaningful safety benefit to elderly drivers.(1) The improvement in functional vision may also improve safety in other low-visibility situations.(2)

In addition to receiving sharp distance vision with the TECNIS® Lens, in many cases we may be able to also correct pre-existing astigmatism at the time of cataract surgery.

rezoomlens

The ReZoom™ Multifocal Lens procedure is an advanced treatment for cataracts that helps most people see near, far and everything in between without depending on glasses.

Unlike conventional single-vision (monofocal) lens implants, state-of-the-art ReZoom™ lenses have been specially designed with multifocal zones that provide good vision across the spectrum of varying distances and light conditions.

The ReZoom™ Multifocal Lens is a clear, foldable implant made of a high-refractive-index acrylic material. This new technology multifocal lens is designed to provide a full range of vision – near, distance and intermediate – after cataract treatment.
