Worldwide, 95.4% of LASIK patients are very satisfied with their results after surgery. The highly reliable analysis performed by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive surgery (ASCRS), considers the patient’s overall satisfaction rather than their visual outcome. The peer-reviewed meta-analysis
reviewed 2915 articles. Of these, 19 studies were found to match the rigorous quality criteria and address patient satisfaction specifically.
The studies assessed a total of 2199 patients worldwide, and found myopic and hyperopic patients to show similar satisfaction rates. The results were also consistent over time, from the early days of LASIK surgery until now. These findings, coupled with LASIK’s safety profile, support the general consensus that LASIK is one of the most successful elective procedures available. It is no wonder that laser vision correction is now the world’s number-one elective procedure.
